Bursitis/ pain on the side of the hip refers to inflammation of the Bursa, a fluid filled sac that functions to reduce the amount of friction between joints and tissues throughout the body. It’s generally caused by trauma to the area and commonly associated with overuse/too much pressure on the affected body region.
Trochanteric bursitis (hip pain) is associated with inflammation of the trochanter, located adjacent to the pelvis/ hip bone on the outside aspect of the upper thigh. Symptoms arising from trochanteric bursitis involve localised lateral hip pain (pain on the outside of the hip) commonly associated with a minor limp and difficulty sleeping on the involved side.

It’s recommended that the patient receives care daily to gain the maximum benefit from the treatment to ensure the bursitis doesn’t recur.
